Alignment: Chaotic Good
Cynical fightboy snarker with a heart of gold. People discovering Tales of Vesperia from 2018 onward are consistently surprised to discover its famously badass morally gray protagonist is somehow also a tired single mom trying to keep his four kids fed, happy, and out of trouble.

Yuri Lowell
Appearance;
* I still need to finish translating the Tales of Illustrations interview about his character design but he and the general setting of the game have 和 all over them as a distinguishing feature from past Tales games. People on Terca Lumireis seem generally undifferentiated, with varying skin tones and hair textures that aren't commented upon or at all region-specific. The TL;DR here is that Flynn and Estelle are noticeably pinker than Yuri.

Abilities;
fighting
Yuri is lefthanded, but like many lefthanded people he's also ambidextrous: primarily wields his sword in his left hand and punching with his left, but he can and does switch things up as needed.
Yuri's fighting style is canonically primarily self-taught, but it's highly reminiscent of Tricking, a martial art that adds in elements of gymnastics and breakdancing.
He's also some sort of combat prodigy, and when we see him learn a new fighting move, it's almost always just... "Yuri saw someone do this once, or read a description in a book that other characters were calling actively unhelpful, and now he can do it too". Like a jerk.

magic
Yuri will insist he can't do magic until he's blue in the face, but several of his attacks have elemental attributes. These include variants on his Burst Arte ("Divine Wolf, Flood!") and his one healing ability: Guardian Field, which is a small AOE heal he can cast repeatedly without too much trouble that should seal up and repair physical wounds.
The only artes he knows that he will concede might be magic are his Mystic Artes, the heaviest hitters in his arsenal, which have actual proper incantations that must be said before they'll work.

cooking
Yuri comes to be one of the best cooks in the party, as attested to by several skits that refer to him as such even when they aren't specifically about his cooking. It helps when you don't actually dislike anything! And he's one of the quicker to master recipes, too, alongside Judith.
His cooking is tastier and homier than it is fancy, but his plating? Still very noticeably cute and decorative. Pragmatic though he is, he still takes the time to decorate cookies creatively, etc.

wilderness survival
Although one can also extrapolate as much from the in-game systems, a Tales of Theater webisode featuring Yuri traveling with Guy and Luke explicitly shows that he knows how to set up camp and how to make simple traps and snares for animals like rabbits or deer, implying he would also know how to cut up / gut / etc. such animals.
He's a little less successful in foraging in the Quoi Woods, but... if Yuri didn't learn how to catch and prep wildlife for consumption during his training as a Knight, Karol (our Jack of All Guilds, Master of None) certainly could have taught him.

Yuri Lowell
Background;
In Brief
On a fantasy world beset in equal parts by monsters and a deeply classist Imperial government, two boys dreamed of joining the Imperial Knights to protect those weaker than themselves — only to find, when they were finally able to join as young adults, that the corruption in the was system too endemic to be easily rooted out. One of them left the Knights, unable to stomach the sacrifices he would have to make in the short term for their long-term goal, while the other stayed behind, and their friendship strained to the breaking point.
Three years later, their paths have firmly diverged, and Yuri is doing what he can, outside the law, to protect those who slip through the cracks.
While he will also get caught up in a somewhat standard hero's journey to avert an apocalypse and save the world, his story remains fundamentally about the different paths he and Flynn have taken to see their dream fulfilled — and whether or not they can ever reconverge......
TL;DR: When he was 16, Yuri was a much more typical Shounen Protagonist; bright-eyed, unfailingly optimistic, determined to change the world for the better. Then he fulfilled his childhood dream of joining the Imperial Knights — and discovered ACAB, basically.
Yuri's much more cynical and world-weary now, but the Shounen Protag is still there, not that far beneath the surface, and you can see it in how easily he makes friends with most people — and even some distinctly non-people people. Yuri is a nakama character, and he adopts people pretty quickly into his little "pack".

Stats Deep Dive;
Strength
Despite being very obviously high-agility, Yuri's no fragile speedster: many of his weapons are very clearly two-handed (broadswords, bastard swords, giant axes), but he wields them one-handed and reserves his non-dominant hand for punching people in the face or gut. Brutal Fang in particular sees Yuri doing a lightning fast combo with just the one hand, punching, over and over and over and over and over and over again.
Dexterity
Fast, flexible, highly dexterous, and prone to acrobatic nonsense during fights — or, like, just because he can.
Yuri's also a bit of a show-off. (If you listen closely, you may hear every person who has ever met Yuri demand: "A bit?!")

Constitution
While it's not his highest stat by any means, Yuri's pretty tough. He has a high pain tolerance and has shown himself to be capable of pushing through injuries to finish a fight before collapsing once it's safe.
Intelligence
Born an orphan, Yuri hasn't had much in the way of formal education. He can read and write without difficulty, he can do basic math, and years ago he received some basic training when he enlisted in the Imperial Knights that included how to use a bodhi blastia, how to administer basic non-magical first aid, etc. He also has an incongruously good vocabulary, which we can probably put down to exposure through Flynn.
So, Yuri isn't especially educated, and there's a lot he simply doesn't know...

Wisdom
...but he more than makes up for it by being clever, resourceful, highly perceptive, and great at thinking outside the box specifically. Yuri gets other people, both on an intuitive and a more intellectual level — although he has a bit of a blind spot when it comes to how other people feel about him, specifically.
Yuri also gets along well with animals and other nonhumans with whom he can't directly communicate: he's less of a "dog person" than a person who really respects the intelligence and agency of his wolf-dog Repede, and his tendency to meet you where you are will always serve him well when it comes to making new friends of all kinds — whether it's a skittish housecat or a big honkin' monster.

Charisma
Yuri's not, actually, exceptionally persuasive; what he is, is a good listener, who will talk you through all the different options and help you find the one you already wanted to do anyway. And by the time he's done, you probably like him, and you're probably going to be more inclined to listen if he gives you advice.
All his really impressive feats of charisma have been lucky saving throws.
